One of the Kansas Notable books of 2019, this book is part historical fiction part memoir. This book is based on the true story of a baseball team in Emporia, Kansas in 1956. The team, Brown bombers was an eleven man mixed race baseball team who thrive athletically as the team tolerates racism as a cost of playing a game they love. The story is told from the lone Caucasian who was deemed brown enough to play on the team.
A good read for any reader of sports fiction or nonfiction or a reader of historical fiction.
